Election Reflections

Barack Obama and John McCain were running to be candidate.  It took 9 or 10 months to be elected for president.  Can you guess who won?  Barack Obama won.  Who did you want to win?  I wanted Barack Obama to win because I would be happy for him to be the first African American president.  But if Sarah Palin was with Barack Obama she would be the first girl vice president. ~by Melanie Smith

If I were Malia or Sasha, and I woke up one morning and found out my dad was president, I would be extremely excited because I would get to live in the White House!  It would be so cool to get to be the daughter of the president!  Michelle said to the kids that they could get a dog after the election (2008) was over.  Wow!  One man, one woman, two kids, and a dog.  This is going to be very interesting!   ~by Katie Hancin

.....Did you know that Barack Obama and his family are from Illinois just like Abraham Lincoln?  That is kind of cool!   ~Erin Musick

I think it would be cool to live in the White House, but it would be scary to see Abraham Lincoln's ghost!   ~Jonathon Burdick

Barack Obama is the first African American President in the USA.  He also received more votes than any candidate in history.  Barack has two little girls named Malia and Sasha.  Malia is 10 years old and the oldest.  Sasha is 6 years old and the youngest.  Obama's wife's name is Michelle.  Barack said to his daughters that they would get a puppy after the election was done.  The score was Obama 338 and Mccain 163.  Malia and Sasha do chores and get $1.00 each week.  Barack Obama Rocks! ~by Sydney Souders

If I was Malia I would be so happy that my dad is the new President of the United States of America.  Also that he is the first African American  president.  I think John McCain gave Barack Obama a big battle.  This is making history!  p.s. don't forget to vote in four years.   ~by Ryan French

I think it is going to be hard for Obama because he has two kids running around.  What if the puppy pees on the floor and there is a stain and they can't get it out?  when the puppy gets older, it might knock down plants and other things in the White House.        ~by Tricia Marshall

During the month of November, the students will be assigned a book report (no project this time!).  They will read and write a report on a fiction chapter book of their choice in which a main character is an animal.  There are several good choices at the Book Fair, or the students may choose one from the classroom library or from the public library or from home.  Book choices will have to be approved by me.

Thursday:

Math: wb25 evens.

The steps for this kind of estimation are:
