TECHNOLOGY VISION St Ephrems Vision on Technology is committed to providing our students an educational experience which will ensure that the students receive the technical skills necessary to prepare them for High School. Currently in computer class we are teaching our students Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint) with access to the Internet. Students interact using Web 2.0 websites for collaboration and communication. This opportunity is presented through a respectful, supportive, and safe environment. TECHNOLOGY CURRICULUM Our Technology Program uses updated technology daily in a curriculum designed to enhance their skills in programs on Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Publisher, and Powerpoint) along with access to the Internet. Students in grades 4-8 are using Office 2007. The new terminology they are familiar with are tabs and ribbons; live preview & mini toolbar. Additional software programs used in the classrooms are Typing Software; Multimedia Educational Websites. You will find our students working on computers throughout our School in the Classrooms, Computer Lab and 2 Wireless Labs. Our building is now wireless, thanks to the help of A2B Technologies. Computer peripherals abound as well, Smartboards, Digital cameras, projectors, printers, all coming together for the development of student-created projects. In the labs when students are using the Internet, teachers are always there to guide and assist. Research is conducted using search agents like Google and accessing many favorite Web sites. Students are blogging and podcasting as part of their assignments and projects. In the Technology/Computer classroom, daily instructions are given using a projector & widescreen for the Presentation of the lessons, including Web 2.0 online websites including Google Docs and Handouts. The students apply technology skills through problem solving. Student work This has truly revolutionized the learning ability for our students. Our students in grades 6-8, complete Lessons on Internet Safety that are provided by the Department of Justice called ISAFE. and netsmartz.com. Topics included (grades 5-8) Cyber Community; Predator Identification; Personal Safety; Cyber Security and Intellectual Property. In grades, 1-3 student learn about being safe on the Internet and not sharing personal information. Our goal is to assist you in keeping your children safe on the Internet. We will continue with Internet Safety Instruction for our students each year.
